Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what information PortugueseToEnglish.net ("the site", "we", "us") and the services it relies on collect when you visit portuguesetoenglish.net, and how it is used. The site has no user accounts and does not show advertising.

Information we collect

Text submitted to the translator

When you click Translate, the text you entered is sent directly from your browser to the MyMemory translation API, operated by Translated srl (Italy), together with the language pair. As with any web request, MyMemory also receives your IP address and browser information. This site does not receive or store the text. MyMemory's own terms and conditions govern what it does with requests, so do not paste passwords, personal data or confidential documents into the translator.

The translator remembers your chosen direction and Portuguese variant in your browser's local storage. That setting stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

The site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-DDWN2GCPEM) to understand how it is used in aggregate — for example which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, and what type of device and browser they use. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) and collects information including your IP address (which Google uses to derive an approximate location and does not log in GA4), pages viewed, referring URLs and device details. We do not use Google Analytics to identify individual visitors and we do not combine it with other data.

Hosting logs

The site is served by a hosting and content-delivery provider, which processes technical request data (such as IP address, requested URL and user agent) to deliver pages and protect against abuse.

Information you provide

If you email us via the address shown on the Contact page, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. This information is used only to reply to you.

Advertising

The site does not currently display advertising and does not use advertising cookies. If that changes, this policy will be updated before any advertising is introduced.

Third-party services

• MyMemory (Translated srl) — translates the text you submit.
• Google Analytics (Google) — aggregate usage measurement. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
• Hosting and content delivery provider — serves the site's files.

How we use information

• To return translations you request.
• To understand which pages are useful and improve the site.
• To respond to email correspondence.
• To keep the site secure and working.

Data retention

• Translator text: not received or stored by this site.
• Analytics data: kept according to the Google Analytics data-retention setting (at most 14 months for user-level data).
• Email correspondence: kept for up to 12 months so we can follow up.

Data sharing

We do not sell personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers listed above, and with authorities where required by law.

International transfers

The service providers above may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States and the European Union, under their own safeguards.

Your rights and choices

• You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
• You can opt out of Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
• Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, UK or California) you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to processing of personal information. Email us using the address on the Contact page; analytics data is pseudonymous, so we may need details such as the date and time of your visit to locate it.
• If you are in the EEA or UK you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children's privacy

The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The "Last reviewed" date at the top shows the most recent change.
